Dongba Performers

Among the Naxi people of Lijiang and its surrounding counties, a religious belief called Dongba influenced much of their culture and traditions. In the culture of the Dongba, pictography was widely used to illustrate classical literature. There are about 1,400 words in the Dongba pictography. Moreover, the Naxi people developed their music around this religious practices as performed by the family shown in the picture below.
